Mount Olive Correctional Complex Slayton Work Camp

Mount Olive Correctional Complex is a maximum security prison that houses up to 1,030 adult male inmates.  Currently Mount Olive Correctional Complex is the only prison in the state that houses maximum security males.  Inmates at this facility are considered to be high risk, violent, predatory type offenders.  This facility also houses inmates who were disruptive or deemed dangerous and were transferred to Mount Olive for more appropriate confinement.  Offenders are secured by a razor wire security fencing, multiple electronic detection systems, a large centralized observation tower, and electronic locking control systems.

Mount Olive Correctional Complex is so large it has it's own zip code, post office power plant, fuel depot and water supply.  Offenders have access to a gymnasium, library, chapel, medical clinic/hospital and a variety of educational classes.  Adult basic education and GED courses are recommended to any inmate who does not have a diploma.  Offenders who have a diploma can take college courses to earn an Associate's Degree through BridgeValley Community/Technical College.  Vocational training is available in culinary arts, agriculture, and welding.  Inmates can also work in the Correctional Industries program in a sign shop, a metal shop, and in a soap cleaning supply factory.

Additional programs at Mount Olive Correctional Complex include the "Paws-4-Prison" program which allows inmates to train service dogs.  Offenders can also work a variety of jobs within the institution.  The 48 bed minimum security Slayton Work Camp is located just outside of the secure perimeter fence.  Inmates at the work camp can participate in road crew assignments and provide labor to various charities and government agencies.

Visiting Hours at Mount Olive Correctional Complex and Slayton Work Camp:

You must have an approved visiting application on file in order to visit an inmate.  Visiting occurs as follows:

  • General Population inmates have visits on:
    • Saturdays and Sundays from 8:30am-6pm.  Processing of visitors into the visitation area occurs from 8:30am-10:30am and from 11:30am-3:30pm.  If you arrive after 3:30pm you will not be admitted into visitation.
  • Segregation Units (Quilliams 1&2, Mental Health Unit and Infirmary) have visitation by appointment only.
    • Call the facility on a Saturday or Sunday between 9am-5pm to schedule a visit.
  • Slayton Work Camp inmates have visits by appointment only.
    • Call at least one week in advance on a Saturday or Sunday from 8am-5pm to schedule a visit.
