Howard McLeod Correctional Center
Howard McLeod Correctional Center is located in Atoka Oklahoma. It is a minimum security prison that houses 616 adult males. This prison sits on 5,300 acres of land and is used to grow vegetables, hay, fire wood, pecans, and raise cattle. Many of the produce that is cultivated here is used to feed the inmates of this facility and other prisons in Oklahoma.
Inmates at Howard McLeod Correctional Center can receive vocational training in precision machining technology, welding, caring for livestock, and farming. Offenders can also earn a GED during their incarceration and take adult basic education classes. Medical dental and mental health treatment is also available on site to all offenders. One of the more interesting facts about this prison is that in 1994 dinosaur bones were discovered on the land surrounding the prison. Paleontologists were able to excavate fourteen skeletons of four different types of dinosaurs.
