Smithfield State Correctional Institution is located in Huntingdon Pennsylvania.  It is a close custody prison that houses up to 1,380 adult male offenders.  The facility is comprised of twenty two buildings, eleven of which are housing units for inmates.  Inmates are housed in single cells and multiple occupancy cells depending on the security requirements of the inmate.  Select offenders at SCI Smithfield can work in the Correctional Industries Program which operates a garment factory that employs up to 50 inmates.

Smithfield State Correctional Institution has a unique program called the "Puppy Program" in which offenders are paired with dogs that the inmate helps train to be a service animal.  While incarcerated offenders who do not possess a diploma are encouraged to take adult basic education courses and earn a GED.  Additional vocational training is available in various construction trades, custodial maintenance, and barbering.  Alcohol and substance abuse treatment, sex offender treatment, violence prevention and parenting courses are just some of the available programs for inmates at SCI Smithfield.

Visiting Hours at Smithfield State Correctional Institution:

Visitation at SCI Smithfield occurs on Mondays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 8:30am-3:30pm.  Visitors can bring a small clear Ziploc bag with up to $50 in coins and small bills ($1's or $5's) to use in the visiting room vending machines.
