Shawangunk Correctional Facility

Shawangunk Correctional Facility is located in Wallkill New York, part of Ulster County.  It is a maximum security prison that houses adult males.  Shawangunk Correctional Facility has the capacity to house 558 inmates.  This facility participate in the Correctional Industries, and allows offenders to earn a wage working in document conversion.  Document conversion consists of converting handwritten information into the computer.  To be eligible inmates must have a GED or high school diploma and pass a security screening.  Inmates can also work in a youth assistance program designed to divert at risk youths from becoming involved in illegal activities.

Shawangunk Correctional Facility offers vocational opportunities in carpentry, business, building maintenance, and printing.  This facility offers inmates counseling and treatment for alcohol and substance abuse.  Additionally, if an inmate is incarcerated for a sex crime they will be required to participate in the sex offender counseling and treatment program.

Visiting Hours at Shawangunk Correctional Facility:

Visiting at Shawangunk Correctional Facility occurs Monday through Friday for general population inmates from 8:30am-2:15pm, processing of visitors ends at 2pm.  SHU inmates have visitation everyday from 8:30am-2:15pm.  A maximum of three adult visitors and four children aged 12 and under are allowed to visit during one session.
