Lorain Correctional Institution is located in Grafton Ohio.  It is a reception center for male inmates located in the Northern part of the state.  Because it is a reception center it houses inmates of all security levels from minimum to closed custody.  Lorain Correctional Institution tries to process inmates within 30 days but due to continual overcrowding many inmates end up here for longer periods of time while they await classification.

Lorain Correctional Facility houses most offenders for a short term while they are classified and moved to the appropriate facility, because of this programs offered here are limited.  One of the programs offered here is a Bee Keeping program which teaches inmates biology, hive maintenance, and harvesting of honey.  Offenders at this facility can receive adult basic education classes and earn a GED during their incarceration.

Visiting Hours at Lorain Correctional Institution:

Inmates at Lorain Correctional Institution will either be a reception status inmate, or Cadre inmate.  Visitors of Cadre inmates are required to make an appointment to visit, inmates who are in reception status are not required to have a reservation.  Inmates are allowed up to four visits each month, and up to two visitors at a time.  To make a reservation to visit a Cadre inmate call (440)-748-1049 ext. 399 Monday-Friday from 5pm-9pm.  The visiting schedule at Lorain Correctional Institution is as follows:

  • Reception Status Inmates
    • Visiting will depend on the last digit of the inmate's identification number.  Inmates with an odd identification number will have visits on odd dates, inmates with an even identification number have visits on even dates.
    • Visiting is Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 8am-11am (processing ends at 9:30am), and from 12pm-3pm (processing ends at 1pm).  You should arrive 30 minutes prior to the start of the visiting period to get through processing.
  • Cadre Inmates
    • Visiting is by appointment only on Saturdays and Sundays by appointment only.
    • Visiting hours are from 8am-11am (processing ends at 9:30am) and from 12pm-3pm (processing ends at 1pm).
