Kyle Correctional Center

Kyle Correctional Center is a minimum security prison located in Hays County Texas.  The facility opened in 1989 and has the capacity to house 520 male inmates.  Kyle Correctional Center, sometimes referred to as Kyle Unit, is privately run through the Management Training Corporation (MTC).  Kyle Unit serves as a Substance Abuse Treatment Facility, and provides the Substance Abuse Felony Punishment Program (SAFP) to approximately 170 offenders, and provides an In-Prison Therapeutic Community (IPTC) to about 350 inmates.  These programs usually run anywhere from six to eight months, and provide ongoing support after completion.

Inmates at Kyle Correctional Center go through three phases of treatment; initial intake and orientation, the main treatment program, and re-entry planning.  During their incarceration, inmates can take courses in adult basic education, earn their GED, participate in conflict resolution/anger management classes, and receive counseling.  Additional programs includes a parenting/fatherhood program, and PAWS, which allows offenders to work training shelter dogs and ready them for adoption.
