James River Work Center

James River Work Center opened in 1995 and is located in State Farm Virginia.  It operates under the direction of Deep Meadow Correctional Center and is located just down the road from it.  Inmates at the James River Work Center have access to the Greener Pastures Program which allows the offender to work with retired thoroughbreds, and teaches them a wide array of horse management skills.  You can read more about the horse program at James River Work Center here.

James River Work Center employs inmates on a dairy farm located on prison grounds.  Because this facility is a level 1 low security institution not all offenders will be eligible to be incarcerated here.  Inmates at James River Work Center cannot be incarcerated for murder, sex related crimes, robbery, kidnapping or abduction, assaults or have a history of escape, cannot have a pending felony charge against them or have any behavioral issues.

Visits at James River Work Center occur on Saturdays and Sundays and utilize a rotating schedule.  Contact the facility for the current rotation and visiting times.
