Butner Medium I Federal Correctional Institution

Butner Medium I Federal Correctional Institution became the first facility of the Butner Federal Correctional Complex in 1976. Located in Butner of Granville County, North Carolina, Butner Medium I FCI is a medium security facility housing male offenders both at the institution and the nearby minimum security  camp. The prison currently has 700 inmates at the institution and 325 at the satellite camp.

The facility dedicates half their housing for inmates who wish to attend the vocational and educational programs that Butner Federal Correctional Complex has to offer.  The rest of housing is for inmates who need to be cared for because of poor behavioral health, better known as the Psychiatric Center.  Butner Medium I FCI offers individual and group counseling, as well as a variety of support groups, and substance abuse programs.
