California Institution for Women

California Institution for Women is a facility that houses all custody levels from minimum to maximum of female offenders.  The facility can accommodate the special needs of some female offenders including pregnancy, problems associated with HIV, methadone and mental health units.  Some offenders may be selected from this facility to participate in conservation camp placement where the inmates are trained in fighting fires and utilized during forest fire emergencies.

Offenders at this location can take advantage of the many programs and vocational skills that can be learned.  The facility has a clothing manufacturing program that allows inmates to make the various uniforms and clothing worn by inmates, and firefighters.  Computer courses offered at this facility cover data processing, graphic arts programs and basic computer skills like word processing.  Like all facilities California Institution for Women also has programs where offenders can earn a basic education and courses to obtain a GED which is the equivalent of a high school diploma.  All these programs are aimed at the eventual successful reintegration of the inmate with society.  .
