Monroe Correctional Complex originally opened in 1910 with various units added to the complex in 1981, 1994, 1997, 1998, and 2007.  The Monroe Correctional Complex is comprised of five units; Washington State Reformatory, Twin Rivers Unit, Special Offender Unit, the Minimum Security Unit, and the Intensive Management Unit.  The facility houses a maximum of 2,400 male inmates who range in custody from maximum/close to minimum.  

The Minimum Security Unit houses minimum custody offenders in four units.  Washington State Reformatory houses medium custody inmates in four units.  The Special Offender Unit houses two maximum security units, two close custody units, and two medium custody units.  Twin Rivers Unit houses two medium units, and two minimum units.  The Intensive Management Unit houses maximum security offenders.

Programs offered to inmates at Monroe Correctional Complex will vary depending on which unit the offender is in.  All inmates are offered adult basic education, GED courses, and basic medical, dental and mental health services.  Inmates convicted of a sex crime will be required to undergo a sex offender treatment program.  Vocational programs for inmates include horticulture, carpentry, print and graphic arts, and more.  For a full listing of programs at Monroe Correctional Complex click here.
