Indian Creek Correctional Center is a level 2 medium security prison that opened in 1994, and is located in Chesapeake Virginia.  This facility specializes in housing offenders who have substance abuse issues, and runs an intensive long term treatment program.  Inmates are housed in six housing units, an additional unit is reserved for reception inmates.  This facility has the distinction of being a prison with one of the largest substance abuse programs in the nation.  This facility houses approximately 1,005 adult inmates.  Indian Creek Correctional Center participates in the Virginia Correctional Enterprise program employing inmates in a plastic bag manufacturing operation and in portion pak chemical manufacturing.

The substance abuse program at Indian Creek Correctional Center is consists of three phases.  Inmates start at phase I and progress to phase III, as they progress so does individual accountability and the difficulty.  Inmates are drug tested routinely and those who cannot comply with the program are kicked out and sent to other correctional facilities.
