Greenville Federal Correctional Institution

Greenville Federal Correctional Institution is a medium security prison with a nearby minimum security satellite camp.  FCI Greenville is located in Greenville of Bond County, Illinois.  The FCI was designed to hold male offenders and as of 2000, the camp was created to hold female prisoners.  Together, all the buildings currently house 1,366 prisoners with 1,020 inmates at the FCI and 346 at the camp.  However, the facilities were originally designed to hold only 1,232 inmates altogether.

The most notable incident that occurred at FCI Greenville was in 2001.  The incident involved notable inmate, David Mack, who was involved in the Rampart Scandal, convicted of plotting the armed robbery of a Los Angeles bank where $722,000 was stolen, and associated with the planning of the murder of rapper Notorious B.I.G.  During his incarceration at FCI Greenville, Mack was attacked by a group of prisoners while Mack was just going for a jog in the prison yard.  The Federal Bureau of Prisons and the FBI both refused to say that the attack happened.  However, Mack's attorney reported that the prisoners who attacked Mack were gang members.  These gang members were said to have attacked Mack after reading press accounts that discussed Mack's stealing from gang members and his association with officer Rafael Perez who was also part of the scandal.  After the attack, Mack was sent to the hospital and suffered from stab wounds and a punctured lung.
