East Mississippi Correctional Facility

East Mississippi Correctional Facility is a prison located in Meridian Mississippi.  It is a privately run facility under contract with the Mississippi Department of Correction that has been under great scrutiny in recent years.  The prison was once run by GEO Group but after many complains of the ill treatment of inmates and the deplorable conditions that were present the contract was exchanged to Management and Training Corporation.  Even after the change in contract, the facility continues to face allegations of human rights violations and corruption.  An investigation, ongoing litigation, and continual complaints of rape, violence, malnourished inmates, and mistreatment continue to plague this prison.

East Mississippi Correctional Facility houses 1,500 inmates of minimum, medium, close, and maximum custody levels.  Offenders can take adult basic education courses and earn a GED while incarcerated here.  Inmates can also take bible study, art classes, receive substance abuse treatment, individual counseling, take life skills courses, parenting classes and a variety of other therapeutic/psychoactive services.
