Chuckawalla Valley State Prison

Chuckawalla Valley State Prison is located in Blythe California.  The facility incarcerates minimum to medium security inmates.  Originally this facility was constructed to hold almost 2,000 inmates, it currently houses over 4,000.

Inmates in the general population are allowed to roam free from their cells for most of the day, with the exception of lock-downs and during the count periods, where the inmates are counted to ensure they are all still there.  The facility has separate units and quarters for sex offenders, former gang members, and law enforcement who have been convicted themselves of a crime.  The reason these population groups are held separately is for the safety and security of everyone at the institution, including those on administrative segregation.
