Bennettsville Federal Correctional Institution
Bennettsville Federal Correctional Institution, sometimes referred to as Bennettsville FCI, is a medium security prison located in Marlboro County South Carolina. In addition to the main unit, Bennettsville FCI operates a minimum security satellite camp located next to the facility. Bennettsville has a maximum capacity of 1,800 male inmates. Currently, this facility houses about 1,536 offenders, with 143 inmates located at the camp and 1,393 at the main unit.
Bennettsville FCI is located on 670 acres of land, and has 50 acres inside the secure perimeter fence. The camp is located on the right hand side of the main institution and contains the warehouse, facility maintenance and a mechanics garage. The main unit at Bennettsville is comprised of three large 500 bed housing units. Each of these dormitories contains four levels and four pods. The camp at Bennettsville contains dormitory housing for up to 150 inmates.
Offenders at Bennettsville have an average sentence of 143 months, or about 12 years. Inmates range in age from 20 to 86 years old. A wide variety of educational programs are available at Bennettsville FCI and include academic courses that teach Adult Continuing Education (ACE), Literacy, English Second Language, and even give inmates the opportunity to earn a GED during their incarceration (those who earn a GED are entitled to a $25 achievement award). Parenting courses are also offered to help improve knowledge, attitude and relationship skills. Vocational training and certification is provided in automotive service, construction, machining, welding, waste recycling/management, electrical, industrial cleaning, HVAC, and culinary arts. Some certifications may require a nominal fee.
Inmates at Bennettsville Federal Correctional Institution are provided recreation programs. Intramural programs include basketball, flag football, softball, handball, horseshoes, bocce ball and soccer. Fitness equipment is available to inmates during recreation. Additional activities include ceramics, crocheting, band, board games, and an arts program.
Visiting Hours at Bennettsville FCI:
Inmates at Bennettsville Federal Correctional Institution are allowed visits on Saturdays and Sundays from 8:30am to 3pm and on Fridays from 5pm to 8pm. Visitors will not be processed into visitation after 2pm on weekends, and after 7pm on Fridays. All visitors must be on the inmate's approved visitation list prior to attending a visitation session. Inmates are limited to five visitors at a time. Prospective visitors should always contact the institution number at the telephone number provided to ensure the visiting schedule has not changed and that their inmate is currently eligible for visits.
