Beckley Federal Correctional Institution

The Federal correctional Institution at Beckley, also known as Beckley FCI, is a medium security Federal Prison located in Beaver West Virginia, part of Raleigh County.  The facility is comprised of the main unit which houses approximately 1,502 male inmates, and the satellite camp which houses an additional 384 offenders.  Located on 282 acres, Beckley Federal Correctional Institution is secured by double fences, razor wire, motion detection systems, and microwave detection systems.  Additionally, Beckley FCI utilizes video surveillance, and 24 hour dual roving perimeter patrol.

The main facility at Beckley FCI is comprised of three four level housing units.  Inmates are housed in two story buildings that contain two tiers on each floor.  Cell arrangements range from multiple and double occupancy to three single cells in the Special Housing Unit.  The SHU can house up to 143 inmates.  The camp compound houses minimum security male offenders in an open dormitory housing unit.  Many of the inmates at the camp act as a labor force for the main facility, providing services in food, laundry and maintenance.

Inmates at Beckley Federal Correctional Institution are provided educational classes that teach continuing adult education, literacy and give inmates the chance to earn a GED.  Vocational training is taught to offenders and offers them a chance to earn a new skill.  Vocational courses include computer applications, electric, masonry, appliance repair, HVAC, carpentry and blueprinting.  Additional programs are available to offenders who suffer from substance dependencies, including a residential and non-residential drug abuse program.  Inmates are encouraged to participate in all programs that could benefit them.

Visiting Hours at Beckley FCI:

Visiting hours for inmates located at Beckley Federal Correctional Institution are Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays from 8am to 3pm.  Additionally, visiting is open on all Federally recognized Holidays from 8am to 3pm.  Visitors will not be processed into visitation at the main unit after 2pm.  At the camp the processing of visitors will cease at 1:30pm.  Inmates are allowed a maximum of five visitors (including children) per visiting session.  Inmate visitation is based on a points system.  Each month inmates are allotted 8 visitation points, one point is deducted for each weekday visit, and two points are deducted for each weekend or Federal Holiday visit.  All visitors must be on the inmate's approved visitation list prior to attending a visitation session.  Visitors should always contact the institution prior to visiting to ensure that the visiting times have not changed or been canceled for the day, and that the inmate is still eligible for a visit.
