Alexander Correctional Institution

Alexander Correctional Institution is located in Taylorsville North Carolina.  It is a close custody facility, which is more restrictive then Medium custody.  Offenders are held in single cells and are under armed supervision and closely watched.  Inmates at this institution have been convicted of a very serious crime, or have shown a willingness to disobey correctional rules.  Additionally, inmates who continue to present a challenge to management may be held in one of the 128 segregation cells.

Offenders at Alexander Correctional Institution are placed in one of four units.  The unit the inmate is assigned to will be based on their security needs, the programs they are participating in, and any work detail they are assigned to.  Alexander Correctional Institution participates in the Correctional Enterprise program which allows inmates in the Green unit to work in a furniture plant and other institutional jobs.  Inmates in residential or outpatient mental health treatment programs are housed in Red unit.

Visiting Hours at Alexander Correctional Institution:

All visits must be schedules at least 24 hours in advance by calling (828)-632-1379 (if leaving a message include your name, the inmates name and OPUS number, the date and time you want to visit, and your telephone number).  

  • Visits are Monday through Thursday in two sessions, from 8:30am-10:30am and from 1pm-3pm.  
  • Friday, Saturday and Sunday visitation is reserved for inmates housed on Red, Blue and Green Units, and adheres to the following schedule:
    • January-March and July-September
      • 8:30am-10:30am for Blue Unit, Upper Red Unit, Green Unit-B Wing
      • 1:30pm-3:30pm for Lower Red Unit, Green Unit (B,C,D,E,F Wings)
    • April-June and October-December
      • 8:30am-10:30am for Lower Red Unit, Green Unit (Wings B,C,D,E,F)
      • 1:30pm-3:30pm for Blue Unit, Upper Red Unit, Green Unit - A Wing
